Investing in the future…

System Improvements Increase Our Printing Capabilities

As a firm committed to industry leadership, Copresco continues to invest in advanced technology to improve our digital workflow.
We have significantly upgraded our RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) to 480 gigabytes (nearly half a terabyte)! The RAID server—which provides critical backup safeguards and storage for our digital network—includes three redundant power supplies and six hard drives.
RAID is a vital component in our fast turnaround digital printing operation. The server allows us to keep working without missing a beat should a power supply fail or a single drive crash. The system will also substantially reduce the cost of storing your files for reprinting.

Faster Than a Speeding Bullet

Copresco’s new T-1 line offers blazing 1.5 megabits per second file transfer speed. That’s 15 times faster than ISDN, a medium that dazzled the industry just a few years ago.
In addition to increased bandwidth and faster connectivity, we have once again upgraded our PC and Macintosh workstations. These improvements provide much more efficient handling and storage of your work, including the growing number of large high-end color print files. (More on our digital color expansion next month).

More Binding Options Added

Backing up our digital publishing network is our full service bindery. Last month, we told you about our new saddle binder that combines the power of digital printing with high-end finishing performance.
We have also installed new plastic coil binding equipment to further expand our in-house bindery capabil-ities. Plastic coil provides a virtually indestructible means of binding volumes and rounds out our complete range of plastic and wire binding styles.
So when you need help with books and manuals, call the company that’s keeping pace with all your on-demand printing needs.

FAQ: Cures for Infectious Diseases

Q. Talk about good timing. Your item regarding virus protection came the day of the Anna Kournikova scare. Is there really any way to prevent such sneak attacks?
A. The most important thing you can do to avoid virus damage is to upgrade your virus protection software every week.
Malicious viruses like “Melissa,” “ILoveYou” and “Anna” overwhelm e-mail servers across the globe and cause hundreds of millions of dollars in damage. These particular diseases are spread automatically through Microsoft Outlook e-mail software.
But, don’t think the problem is restricted to Microsoft. Macintosh users, once immune to virus attacks, now face the same threats as their PC brethren.

Infection Fighters

This is why a virus protection program that finds and repairs infected files—and is regularly updated—is crucial.
Below are the Internet addresses for Symantec and McAfee, the major antivirus software suppliers for Mac and PC. Both offer easy online updates to ward off new intruders. Their websites also contain a wealth of helpful information. You’ll also find the latest reference data and details about virus hoaxes.
A little time and a few dollars invested now can save you a big hurt later. Don’t get lulled into a false sense of security just because you have installed antivirus software. If you don’t upgrade on a weekly basis, you still face serious consequences. As we’ve said before, “don’t delay...update today.”
