Copresco has been honored with the Xerox
Recognition Award for Sustained Excellence in Image Quality. The award
recognizes Coprescos continuing efforts to improve the performance of the
Docutech by achieving superior reproduction of the
dots that make up photo halftones and screen tints.
This
quest for dot perfection began in 1999 when Copresco won first place in the
Print On-Demand Innovation Leadership Awards.
Our winning entry in the national competition was a 280-page adoption
recruiting book that contained hundreds of childrens photos, says
Copresco president Steve Johnson.
While in New
York City for the Awards ceremony, we met informally with Xerox executives. We
informed them that Copresco was not satisfied with the halftones and screens
produced by our three Docutech 6180s.
We explained that
the machines may be satisfactory for other Docutech shops, but were not
acceptable for the top echelon digital work that our customers expect and
Copresco delivers."
What
followed was an extensive analysis program to determine what could be done to
obtain tighter tolerances and improve the quality of the
6180. Joint meetings were held regularly with
Copresco staff members and Xerox local and corporate executives and engineering
personnel. Quality standards, project timetables, benchmarks and progress
reporting criteria were established.
In addition to
Xeroxs own standards, Copresco recommended the adoption of Graphic Arts
Technical Foundation (GATF) standards, including the use of reflection
densitometer readings and test targets.
The program paid
off. Through procedures implemented by both Copresco and Xerox, Copresco is now
delivering the highest quality achievable on any Docutech.
A major
contributor to the program was Xerox chief engineer Tony Federico, who now
carries the title of corporate vice president/ general manager of the
production solutions business team. Tony rallied his troops to take the 6180 to
a new level of print quality.
Tony expressed his appreciation to Steve, Chuck Legorreta and the Copresco staff in making the award presentation at the Print 01 show. Congratulations on winning the Xerox Recognition Award for Sustained Excellence in Image Quality. You really run a benchmark shop! Meeting your very stringent requirements is pushing us to become a better company, which benefits all of our customers.

As
the leader in our industry, Copresco will continue to push the envelope to
achieve maximum digital printing quality, Steve says. The quest for
dot perfection is a major step in this ongoing processand will never end.
That goes for our digital color operations as
well.
So when you need help with books and
manualsin black and white or colorcall the company that has the
expertise and technical resources to serve you. Call Copresco.
Although
our Macintosh survey respondents were evenly split on whether to upgrade to OS
X, everyone agreed to wait until the bugs are worked out. We think thats
a good idea.
We would, however, like to hear comments
from others in the graphic arts arena about the likes or dislikes of
Apples new operating system.
The Internet offers
unique opportunities to conduct these informal surveys.
