Mother Nature has once again demonstrated her awesome power to render our best-laid plans meaningless. In one sudden move by Hurricane Katrina, life is no longer to be lived as normal in huge areas of two states and parts of several more.
Those of us not
directly affected by the hurricane and flooding have been reminded how fragile
our daily lives are and are reaching out to help in any way we can.
Listed in the bottom right corner are internet links to
an easy-to-use donation web page benefiting the
Red
Cross along with the address of
Coprescos charitable
links page.
You can quickly navigate to sites of many
frontline disaster relief organizations to obtain more information about how to
best help.
Since
business has come to a complete standstill in the worst hit areas, there is no
point in adding to the chaos by shipping or mailing printed material into
Louisiana or Mississippi.
As of this writing, the
United States Postal Service has suspended service to
any zip code in these two states that begins with these three digits: 369, 393,
394, 395, 396, 700, 701 and 704. Service in the Mobile, Alabama, area is back
in operation but nonessential shipments should be avoided.
United Parcel Service and other carriers are on the
same boat. The direct links to the hurricane service interruption pages of both
UPS and USPS are listed below.
Check these often for
updates before proceeding with shipments or mailings that include destinations
within Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama or the Florida panhandle.
At the
power of nature we bow our heads in awe. At the power of government we shake
our heads in dismay.
A provision of the massive Energy
Policy Act recently enacted by
Congress extends daylight saving time by shifting both
the starting and ending dates.
Beginning in 2007 daylight
time is scheduled to start on the second Sunday in March and end on the first
Sunday in November.
This is the first time in the modern
computer age that the mechanics of daylight saving time (DST) have been
adjusted.
Why should
you care? Because most of todays computer-powered services, from your VCR
to your e-mail to your paycheck are now programmed to automatically adjust for
DST on the current schedule.
As things stand now,
existing devices will change time on the wrong day, then need to be manually
changed on the right day. Got that? Missiles wont be launching, but
its still going to cause a lot of hassle, says veteran technologist
Lauren Weinstein.
While this isnt exactly Y2K, it
should be considered as your company implements new technology in the next
year.
Our
thanks to marketing icon George Griffin for his glowing praise.
Referring to Copresco as the copy shop that grew
and grew, he recently honored Lite as Grifs Pick of
the Month.
Overnight Lite just keeps
getting better, opined Grif in the July Instant & Small Commercial
Printer magazine.
Wow! So next time you need short or
medium runs of books or manuals, call the company Grif lauded as
nationally famous. Call Copresco.
