In previous issues, we've featured our production
coordinators and the computer services department in a continuing series
describing how your jobs move through our plant.
This
month, we will tour the department where your publications, books and manuals
are electronically printed from our digital network. Here, you'll meet an
experienced, specially trained staff that has helped Copresco take the Docutech
to a new level of digital printing excellence.
Bob Krusee, Lucie Kennedy, Art Chlebicki, Tom Mladonicky and Sean Morris keep our five Docutech publishing systems and digital color printer humming night and day. In handling an increasing volume of complex jobs and giant production runs, the team produces an average of 10 million impressions each month. This makes Copresco one of the largest digital on-demand printers in the nation.

The staff is frequently called on to perform "Mission
Impossible" tasks with exceptionally demanding time schedules. Their exploits
could fill a textbook on printing production efficiency. For example, where
will you find a crew that can produce 2.4 million impressions of an 80-page
manual in five calendar days? Or, how about turning around 300 sets of a
100-page technical manual over a weekend?
It takes a
dedicated team with plenty of know-how to handle intense pressure and still
produce exceptional quality.
Jobs run the gamut from on-demand printing of
technical manuals and training materials, computer manuals and software
updates, foreign language booklets, handbooks and workbooks to high-tech
newsletters, textbooks, curriculum materials and other important documents.
Each page of each document is a laser original, not a
photocopy.
The digital four-color work produced by
the staff offers the same fast turnaround and high quality advantages of our
black and white services. Documents can even be personalized from database
files or mailing lists.
In-line collating, stapling and index tab imprinting
and insertion, and tape binding enhance the department's production speed and
efficiency.
More complex operations are per-formed in our
binding and finishing departmentthe focus for a future Overnight
Lite issue.
Meanwhile, we'll be glad to take you on a personally
escorted plant tour at any time.
Just call, fax or send
us an e-mail message to set a date.
Q.Have you sold out to a conglomerate?
A.No! No!
No! Copresco is a new name for a new stage of our business growth. It's a new
name, but still carries our same strong commitment of exceptional quality,
extra fast turnaround, continual innovation and personalized customer service.
And, Steve Johnson and Chuck Legorreta are still the owners as they have been
since 1987.
Q.Copresco sounds like an exotic coffee!
A.Hey, that's not such a bad thing. Like someone who's just had
a good cup of coffee, we at Copresco are energized and fast-moving, getting
your work done right and on time. And we stay up all night to deliver up to
250,000 impressions for each customer the next business day!
Q.Speaking of coffee, does this mean...
A.You
guessed it, your Copies Overnight coffee mug is a collector's item, and you
didn't even have to wait for an area code change.
Q.Copresco, a
new name for a new millennium, huh ?
A.You said it, not us. Happy Y2K.
Dwight Polglaze has joined our computer services department. Dwight has extensive experience in the creative and pre-press arena, having worked in both digital and conventional printing environments.
