We were looking for a print vendor
that shared our high quality standards and could lead us in a continuing
improvement program of our technical documentation.
Thats
how Matt Thompson, manager of documentation and training for Interface
Software, Inc., described his quest to find the right printer for his
companys technical manuals.
He found Coprescoa perfect fit for
a profitable working relationshipthrough the Society for Technical
Communication. After meeting with president Steve Johnson, Matt realized that:
Steve and his company could provide the expertise, technical tools and
vision needed to carry us forward.
Founded in 1991, Oak
Brook-based Interface specializes in enterprise relationship management
solutions for the professional services industry. The company is one of Inc.
magazines 500 fastest-growing private companies in America. Its flagship
product, InterAction, provides a powerful sales tool to professional services
orga-nizations like law, accounting and management consulting firms.
The software facilitates business development by tracking
relationships, managing activities and simplifying communications.
Technical documentation is vital to
Interfaces success. Were always looking for ways to do things
better. Our staff wants to continually improve the quality of our work for our
customers, Matt says. We dont have time to micro-manage
printing projects. Thats why we rely heavily on Copresco for innovation,
quality and on-time delivery.
Interface previously worked with
Microsoft Word for software manuals preparation. This created a lot of
problems, including corrupt files, Matt explained.
A switch to
PageMaker didnt help. Coprescos answer was FrameMaker, a
high-powered publishing program for large documents.
Copresco has
also given us extremely valuable counsel on PostScript, fonts, printer drivers,
paper stocks and binding. We really appreciate their knowledge and
expertise, Matt continued.
Interface constantly updates and improves
its software. This keeps Matt and his staff of three technical writers working
on tight timetables to meet project deadlines. When Interface says a new
version will be out on a specific date, Matt says, its
shipped on that date or earlier! The recent release of InterAction 4.2 is
a prime example.
When a major upgrade like 4.2 is released, all
Interface customers get a new suite of software manuals. The set comprises a
saddle bound index and seven text-intensive manuals with graphs and drawings
that are housed in slipcases. The books are double-loop wire bound so they can
lie flat for easy reference.
Like most Interface projects, software
specialists worked up to the last minute to give customers the latest product
enhancements. This kept Matt, technical writers Sara Schertz and Jessica
Vetter, and the Copresco production team working overtime as well. Docutech
proofs were approved on Saturday and Sunday for the job which required 1.2
million impressions.
The finished books were delivered the next
Saturdayright on schedule.
This was accomplished, Steve
says, while Copresco was simultaneously running the largest job in the
companys history.
The completed job was stored on
Coprescos RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) system so it can be
rerun without rescanning, reformatting or reproofing on a print on-demand
basis. In a textbook case for POD (printing on-demand), manuals were reprinted
within three weeks when an Interface client requested additional books for all
sales representatives.
With the major 4.2 upgrade complete, Matt and his
staff are now working on smaller revisions and updates. Regardless of the
projects size, Interface will continue to look to Copresco for
innovation, leadership and technical support.
So when you need help
with books and manuals, call the company that has the skills, experience and
personnel to meet all your digital printing demands. Call Copresco.
